Starling natural habitat and the
breeding / release centre in Bali
Barat National Park.
It
cannot be emphasised more that
the place is desperately under-funded
and any help would be welcome
to improve conditions there. The
guards and birdkeepers survive
in this remote location on very
low income and the facilities
are very, very primitive. Funds
are limited restricting fuel for
the generator and even independent
boat transport. The staff, therefore,
has electric light only for essential
tasks such as cooking at night
and without their own boat transport
they cannot even get home regularly
to see their families.
Even
under these difficult conditions,
the staff remains dedicated to
their task but often under hardship.
