Birds
of New Guinea
– by Beehler
, Pratt & Zimmerman
This book is the
first definitive
ornithological field
guide to New Guinea.
It treats more than
700 species of birds
recorded in the
region, illustrating
more than 600 of
them.
Although published
in 1986 it is still
the only non-photographic
field guide and
is now due for revision
and updating. Nevertheless,
it remains an invaluable
guide and is recommended
for any birdwatcher
visiting the region.

Birds
of New Guinea and
the Bismark Archipelago
–
by Brian Coates
This photographic
guide is an introduction
with photographs
to nearly 450 of
the bird species
found in New Guinea
and the Bismark
Archipelago. It
is an ideal companion
to Beehler et Al.,
Birds of New Guinea
Published in 2001,
its information
complements that
of Beehler et al.
(Birds of New Guinea)
and the photographs
are a more realistic
guide to the birds
shape and coloration.
